S4GC Activities
The S4GC is a very active club. Each year, we organize events to bring about awareness of global issues and to collect items for less fortunate people or organizations and raise funds to help organizations that are working to assist those in needs.

Thursday, March 30 – Guest Speaker – Brett Burke will speak about his Peace Corps experience in Lesotho, Africa and work with children with AIDS- MAN 105 11:30-1:00 p.m.
Tuesday, March 28 An artistic presentation of Mountains Beyond Mountains (Book about Paul Farmer, MD written by Tracey Kidder) 11:30-1:00 in Navesink III (Student Life Center)
Thursday, Feb 2 hosting Dr. Owusu Duah, president & CEO, Martin Luther King Health Training School in Accra, Ghana. The S4GC is helping students at MLKHTS through fundraising efforts.
Thursday, Feb 9 Filming the first edition of “Global Talk” an on-line debate of global issues, authored and debated by S4GC members

December 2, 2016 – Trip to United Nations to learn about global health issues and humanitarian aid to restore health conditions in areas of great need. Tickets $10. Limited seats. Get your tickets early.
April 2017 – Trip to the National Museum of African American History and Culture to learn how our stories, our histories, and our cultures are shaped and informed by global influences. Date TBA. Cost will be about $20 per person. Tickets will go on sale In February.
Academic Year 2015-16
October 2015– The S4GC hosted the Rwanda Debate Team. Five young Rwandese came to Brookdale to share their history, culture and social fabric highlighting similarities and differences and debate the issues they still face after the 1994 Genocide. Three S4GC members Bailey Falco, Mona Patel and Sameerah Wahab moderated questions and debated these similarities and differences in culture and world view. The Rwandan Debate team also made a presentation to over 80 students.
November 13, 2015 – Trip to the United Nations in NYC to learn about humanitarian work and the Syrian refugee crisis.
Academic Year 2014-15
July 2015 – The S4GC supported the Water Project to build a water well in Yinkaya Village in the Port Loko area of Sierra Leone to supply thousands of families with clean water for cooking, drinking and washing.

April 11, 2015 – The club organized and sponsored a Color Run at Vonage in Holmdel, NJ. Despite morning rain and clouds, participants ran and the club raised over $3800 for the “Water Project”.
November 18, 2014– S4Gc organized and participated in a student symposium ” Breaking down Boundaries”. The theme of the symposium was global issues with education, girls and the lack of accessible clean water sources and how having clean water resources increases the number of girls who can attend school.
