Brookdale Celebrates International Education Week November 13 – 17!

International Education Week (IEW) is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of the U.S. government’s efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences with Americans. Brookdale joins thousands of institutions around the world in celebrating diversity and global perspectives.

CALENDAR OF EVENTS

Tuesday, November 14, Jim Keady on Waging Peace; 11:45 am  – 1:00 pm; Student Life Center Navesink Rooms.  “In the same way that soldiers in the U.S. Armed Forces gear up and wage war, so must social justice warriors gear up and wage peace. Jim Keady shares his experience of going to Greece to help with the refugee crisis. Sponsored by Student Life and Activities and International Education Center. Refreshments provided. Wednesday, November 15, Pop-up Cinema – The Road Home; 10:00 am – 5:00 pm; Paramount Theater, Student Life Center.  In this film, which will be shown throughout the day, city businessman Luo Yusheng returns to his home village in North China for the funeral of his father, the village teacher. Before returning to the city, Yusheng symbolically honors his father’s dearest wish: He spends one day teaching in the village school. Wednesday, November 15, University of Dundee – Info Table; 11:30 am – 1:30 pm; Student Life Center Lobby. Stop by to meet a representative from the University of Dundee, Scotland to learn about summer and fall study abroad programs. Tap your feet to traditional Scottish music and taste some Scottish treats! Sponsored by the International Education Center.

Thursday, November 16, International Day of Tolerance: International Festival 11:30 am – 1:15 pm in Student Life Center Navesink Rooms. The UN has designated November 16 as the International Day for Tolerance aimed at fostering mutual understanding among peoples and cultures. We are celebrating with our very own International Festival to promote awareness, education and respect for diversity. Come and see cultural displays from here and around the world. Taste snacks, visit the photo booth, try on traditional clothing, come and discover what we have in common!Sponsored by Educational Opportunity Fund, International Education Center and Student Life and Activities.  Free and open to the community. Thursday, November 16, Film Screening of The Deportation of Innocence; 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm in MAN 105. What happens to children when their parents are deported from the United States? This documentary follows four mixed status families as they deal with the effects of U.S. deportation policy. Sponsored by Dreamers +. Free and open to all.
