Coastal Veterinary is looking to train a veterinary assistant to become a veterinary technician. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with the knowledge base from the Brookdale Veterinary Assistant Position to fill this role. Your education will not stop with Brookdale, we are willing to take on an assistant and teach you the skills to become a veterinary technician. We are a growing family-run two-doctor practice located in Toms River, NJ. Our priority is taking care of our clients by excelling at the primary care of their puppies and kittens through the complex disease management of their aging pets. We preform various surgeries and dental procedures on a daily basis. We are a very unique office as our technicians work with an experienced front staff of patient care specialists, two veterinarians (one from NC State and one from Cornell), a veterinary pharmacist (UNC), and a work Mom making our office a true work family. You will get to be part of a team that gets to know our patients, and get to be part of their care through your knowledge and skills.

Veterinary Assistant will be trained in the following areas: venipuncture, animal restraint of all dogs and cats, running in house lab equipment, digital x-rays, prepare and read slides, prep patients for surgery and procedures, perform dental cleanings, monitor patients under anesthesia, administer medications to patients, prepare prescriptions for patients during appointments and refills for pick up, computer entry using Avimark for all procedures. Veterinary Assistant will be expected to use their knowledge base and continue to learn while working to be able to answer questions about common veterinary medications, vaccines, and basic small animal health care issues and have a positive, friendly attitude while doing so. Veterinary Assistant must also be able to lift 40 pounds. Our goal is to grow this assistant position into a permanent full time position as a veterinary technician with our office.
