SUMMARY:Study Abroad Info Session Berlin: Babylon to Bauhaus
DESCRIPTION:CVA\, Room 204\nParking Lot 2 to the Center for the Visual Arts\nMAP \nBerlin: Babylon to Bauhaus \nFor many designers\, a trip to Germany means a pilgrimage to the Bauhaus\, and that visit will certainly be one of the highlights of our journey. But Modernism did not emerge in isolation. To understand it fully\, we must also understand what came before 1919. Along the way\, we’ll explore the elegant restraint of Biedermeier\, the influential work of Karl Friedrich Schinkel\, and the broader currents of Art Nouveau and Art Deco that helped shape modern design across Europe. Our itinerary also includes many of Germany’s most iconic landmarks\, museums\, and historic sites—from the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag to Sanssouci\, Berlin’s remarkable Pergamon Museum\, and more. But be sure to save some energy to explore the vibrant city of Berlin during your free time. \nFor more information visit Study Abroad – Berlin

SUMMARY:Global Read Kick-Off: Solito: A Memoir by Javier Zamora
DESCRIPTION:The Global Citizenship Project and the Students 4 Global Citizenship (S4GC) club are excited to announce Brookdale’s 2027 Global Read selection\, Solito: A Memoir by Javier Zamora. \nSolito tells the story of a nine-year-old child traveling alone from El Salvador to the United States to reunite with his family. Through themes of migration\, family\, resilience\, identity\, belonging\, and hope\, the memoir offers meaningful opportunities for discussion across many disciplines and resonates with a wide range of student experiences. \nStudents 4 Global Citizenship (S4GC) strive to raise awareness of global issues and diversity at Brookdale and beyond. The club seeks to effect change locally and globally by partnering with relevant organizations and empowering people to address inequities and promote human rights. In support of that mission\, S4GC is hosting the Kick-Off event for Brookdale’s 2027 Global Read and invites the entire BCC campus community to participate. \nWe invite faculty\, staff\, and students to join us for the Global Read Kick-Off Event: \nGlobal Read Kick-Off: Solito: A Memoir by Javier Zamora \nDate: December 3\, 2026\nLocation: Center for Visual Arts Gallery\, 11:30 AM to 1:15 PM\nHosted by: Students 4 Global Citizenship (S4GC)\nExperience the Global Read Kick-Off\nTraditional Salvadoran Food and Refreshments. Connection Through Storytelling. \nDiscover Shared Humanity. \nJoin us as we begin Brookdale’s 2027 Global Read journey. Participants will be introduced to Solito\, learn about the culture and history of El Salvador\, and engage with themes of migration\, family\, resilience\, identity\, belonging\, and hope. Through storytelling and dialogue\, we will explore the experiences that connect us across cultures and communities while beginning a campus-wide conversation about global citizenship. \nWe believe this memoir will resonate with many of your students and can be meaningfully incorporated into courses across numerous disciplines. Faculty interested in participating are encouraged to adopt the book in their courses and engage students in discussions related to its themes. \nTo encourage participation\, we have 50 complimentary copies available through a generous donation from the Center for Transformative Learning. \nStudents\, faculty\, and staff are invited to pick up a copy at the following locations:\nInternational Education Center (MAC 114) international@brookdalecc.edu\nNursing Skills Lab (MAS 136) gcassidy@brookdalecc.edu \nFor additional information and resources\, students may self-enroll in the S4GC Canvas course:\nhttps://brookdalecc.instructure.com/enroll/WXDHXM \nQuestions may be directed to the International Education Center at international@brookdalecc.edu and Georgia Cassidy\, gcassidy@brookdalecc.edu
