What will happen at Early Bird?

What will happen at your Early Bird Orientation?

You’ve applied, taken the college placement exam, and have found your way to campus. Just follow the steps below and by the end of the day you’ll be completely registered as a Brookdale student. Click on each one of the sections for a detailed explanation of what will happen along with a reminder about what you need to do beforehand and what you need to bring with you.

Welcome to Early Bird

Your Early Bird day will start with your arrival at the Warner Student Life Center on Brookdale’s main Lincroft Campus. Please follow the signs to the Navesink Rooms. Make sure to arrive early since the orientation program will start promptly at 9 am.

Once you’re there, we will:

At this point, you will be assigned to a group of Academic Advisors and will receive your New Student Information Folder.

Once that’s done, just find a table, enjoy the light breakfast that we provide during check-in, and wait for the next step to begin.

The Morning Agenda

Once everyone has checked in and had breakfast, the Early Bird Orientation will officially begin.

We’ll start off by having a brief introduction of all the staff in attendance by the representatives of Recruitment Services. They’ll go over the day’s events and coordinate the morning presentations. These are:

  • A message from the President welcoming you as the newest members of the Brookdale family,
  • A presentation about New Student Conduct & Compliance at Brookdale,
  • A presentation from Student Life about how to become involved in everything Brookdale has to offer,
  • A short video about how to go about choosing your classes.

Once the video is done, you’ll split up into the academic counseling areas you were assigned into when you arrived, and your Academic Advisor or Student Development Specialist will walk you down to the Brookdale Library and help you select appropriate courses for your first semester based on your major.

Choosing Your Classes

You’ve made it to campus, checked in, had breakfast, listened to your Early Bird Orientation, and you’ve been split up into different groups to meet with your Academic Advisors. Now it’s time to sit down and choose your classes.

The first thing that happens is that the Academic Advisor for your group will lead you from the Student Life Center over to Brookdale’s Bankier Library. Once there, your group will go to one of the rooms set aside for Early Bird and you’ll log on to the computers found there using your Brookdale student username and password. This is why it’s important to set up your MyBrookdale Account beforehand.

After everyone’s logged in, the Advisors will help you go online and choose your classes using Brookdale’s Student Planning tool. An example of what that is can be seen here in this video.

Once you’re finished choosing your classes and registering with the help of the Academic Advising and Counseling staff, you’ll head back to the Student Life Center to get your Student ID, have lunch, and participate in the Afternoon Orientation Sessions.

The Afternoon Agenda

Congratulations on getting this far! You’ve successfully chosen all of your beginning Brookdale classes and are now a fully registered College Freshman. Next, you’ll head out of the Bankier Library and return to the Warner Student Life Center to finish up the rest of your Early Bird experience. Here’s what will happen –

YOUR PHOTO ID – First, you’ll make your way down to the lower floor of the Student Life Center. There you’ll have your photo ID picture taken and have your Brookdale ID (OneCard) printed out for you.

LUNCH – Then you’ll return back to the Navesink Rooms on the upper floor of the Student Life Center (where you had the morning orientation) for pizza and drinks. Once everyone’s arrived and had something to eat, there will be two presentations to finish out the day.

FINANCIAL AID – The first presentation will be from the Financial Aid department detailing how the Financial Aid process will work and the schedule you’ll need to know for your awards and tuition payments to Brookdale.

ADVISING – Lastly, you’ll have a presentation by the Academic Advising department (who just helped you choose your beginning classes) about what steps you should start taking now to make the best plan for the rest of your college career.

Please be prepared to stay until 2 PM to allow time for all of the presentations to finish.

And that’s it!
