The innovative pre-vocational program offers a comprehensive and well-balanced classroom experience in life skills, consumer skills, self-advocacy, healthy habits, financial literacy, and the use of technology to adult students aged 18 to 24 with developmental disabilities. The program, which is funded by a grant from the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education in New Jersey, is tuition free and will be offered again this summer starting July 10, Monday through Thursday, from 9 am to 3 pm.

SAIL Into Summer has a maximum capacity of 20 participants. Acceptance into the program is based on an application and interview process. Registration is accepted for a minimum of 2 weeks and a maximum of 6 weeks.

“We are excited to offer this new much needed program to individuals in this demographic,” said Noreen Kane, the program manager of Lifelong Learning at Brookdale. “Our goal is to help participants increase their self and career awareness and acquire job-specific skills that will prepare them for employment.”

Additionally, participants will engage in a variety of activities, including STEAM design, podcasting, music projects, arts and crafts, gardening, landscaping, outdoor adventures, nature walks, games, therapy dog visits, and more. The program also includes employment explorations, such as community service, career fairs, employer speaker series, and onsite employment visits. For the evenings, participants can enjoy a range of social events, including dance parties, movie nights, carnivals, flashlight hide-and-seek, crafts, fireside chats, and s’mores.
