Sometimes, a few words of encouragement, empathy or inspiration can strike a chord when you are feeling down, perhaps providing the springboard to more people thought and lessening a sense of isolation.

That’s what motivated Megan Murphy to start The Kindness Rocks Project in 2015.  The project which encourages people to leave rocks painted with inspiring messages along their respective paths. Murphy, a certified professional coach and author, left her first painted rock along the shores near her home in Cape Cod.

Murphy visits Brookdale on March 6 for a rock garden ribbon cutting ceremony outside the Student Life Center. The event starts outside at 5:30 p.m., followed by Murphy’s presentation in the Navesink Rooms. She will also signs copies of her book, A Pebble For Your Thoughts.

The event is sponsored by Brookdale’s Equal Opportunity Fund (EOF) and Student Life & Activities.

EOF Rising Leaders started The Kindness Rocks Project on campus two years ago, scattering rocks with inspirational words along various walkways and paths. Brookdale will join Ohio State University and the University of Virginia as a certified Kindness Rocks Schools,
