Brookdale Community College located in Lincroft, NJ, invested in two germ-eliminating UVC robots that kill any pathogen in their way. The Tru-D® devices are a proactive step to ensure students, faculty, and staff who walk through the doors of the College that they are in a clean and safe environment. Brookdale is the first college in the nation to purchase the Tru-D robot, short for “Total Room Ultraviolet Disinfection,” demonstrating its commitment to remaining on the leading edge of technology and being proactive in providing the highest level of care in the prevention of COVID-19 as possible.
After the traditional cleaning protocol is met, Tru-D is rolled in to complete the disinfection process. The robot is operated by remote control outside the room and features an application that tracts infection control data while simultaneously uploading the information to the college’s web portal. The robots work by generating UVC light energy that modifies the DNA or RNA structure of an infectious cell.
Christopher Otis, Fire Safety and Environmental Compliance manager in the Facilities Administration department said, “We are committed to creating and maintaining a safe learning and working environment, and we have invested in the most progressive infection prevention technology on the market in order to do so.”
In the 50 years since Brookdale opened its doors, both the College and the County have grown tremendously. The 220-acre main campus today comprises 22 buildings totaling 731,353 square feet. In the last decade, many new buildings have been constructed. Examples include Larrison Hall, the Center for the Visual Arts, the Bankier Library, and the beautiful newly renovated Fitness Center and Conference & Events Center. The campus also includes a 360-seat Performing Arts Center, and Advanced Technology Center with state-of-the-art television and music studios, Brookdale Public Radio 90.5 The Night, and some 60 computer labs.
This spring, Brookdale will be more open than the fall semester, in-person classrooms and lab rooms will have the extra protection provided by the Tru-D robots.
