The Jersey Blues women’s soccer team defeated the #4 seeded Genesee Community College Cougars from the penalty kick line, 5-4 after 110 minutes of play. Brookdale advances in the winner’s bracket of the NJCAA Division III National Tournament.

Freshman goalkeeper Emma Bennett played a tremendous game in net, collecting an overall 19 saves through regulation and overtime and making three game changing saves during sudden victory penalty kicks.

In regulation, Brookdale built out of the back while freshman forward Samantha Coleman took advantage of the space Genesee gave her and threaded a through ball to freshman midfielder Dorothy Seidle. Dorothy cut the ball back and netted a left-footed shot to put the Blues on the scoreboard and tie the game, 1-1.

During sudden victory penalty kicks to decide the winner after 110 minutes of back and forth soccer, freshman defender Paige Coulahan, freshman defender Lianna Quezada, freshman forward Samantha Coleman, sophomore forward Jada Trotta and freshman defender Hailey Kret all found the back of the net from the penalty spot to secure the victory and advance to the next match-up against the #1 seeded Delta College Pioneers.

Brookdale (10-2-1) now faces Delta (17-0) on Friday, November 12th at 4pm.
