GEAR UP aims to provide students from economically diverse communities with the resources, support, and guidance necessary to prepare for and succeed in college.

Local Access

The program primarily serves students from Asbury Park, NJ, many of whom will be the first in their families to attend college.

College Dreams Realized

We work to increase college enrollment rates among participating students and to ensure that they have the necessary skills and resources to succeed in college once enrolled.

Comprehensive Assistance: Tutoring, Counseling, Mentoring

We Provide a wide range of services, including academic tutoring, college and career counseling, mentoring, financial aid guidance, college readiness workshops, college visits and tours, and cultural and educational field trips.

Summer Academy 

Success with Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs

99% of high school seniors graduated from high school

70% of high school seniors enrolled in college within six months of graduation

100% of students promoted to the next grade

90% of students completed Pre-Algebra by the 8th grade

79% of students completed Algebra 1 by the 9th grade

98% of students completed Chemistry/Physics

Parental Involvement

We build relationships with parents and encourage parental involvement in program activities, such as attendance at workshops, participation in college visits and volunteerism.

Support

Continued Assistance

GEAR UP offers support to students starting as early as 7th grade and continues to assist them through high school and into their first year of college.

NJ GEAR UP: Supporting Thousands

Nearly 3,000 students are being supported by GEAR UP throughout the state of NJ.
