Welcome to the Esports Arena

Welcome to Monmouth County’s premier hub for the rapidly growing world of esports! With our brand new, state-of-the-art gaming arena completed in August of 2023, Brookdale Community College is now proud to offer esports to our students and community members alike. Whether it be intercollegiate competition at the varsity level for our full-time students, producing professional quality streams and content, competing in tournaments or in-house leagues we host, or just stopping by to take it easy and game with friends, Brookdale Esports welcomes you to enjoy all that we have to offer.

Mission

Establish an innovative and inclusive program for the Brookdale student and community gaming population. Brookdale esports will aim to cultivate a sense of Jersey Blues pride among individuals whose talents may extend beyond traditional sports on a court or a field, but thrive behind a keyboard and a mouse. The program will look to enhance our student and community’s time on campus by providing state-of-the-art technology in a competitive, safe environment to compete in the most popular video game titles.

Arena

The Esports Arena can be found on the first floor of the Student Life Center. For convenient parking, it is recommended to park in Lot #7 and then proceed to the roundabout. Look out for the sign directing you to the building and Arena entrance.

You are allowed to bring your own game disks for consoles, at your own risk, to play with staff approval. You are also allowed to install a game you own from your personal digital library with staff assistance and approval.

Don’t see a game you would like available? Fill out the following form for official game requests. If enough interest is generated, Brookdale Esports will look into purchasing the game for general use.

Rates

All Students – $3.00 / hour

Community Members – $5.00 / hour

Brookdale Employees – $4.00 / hour

VR – $7.00 / half hr

Student Monthly Pass (25 hours; 1 VR session) – $60.00 ($22 savings)

Student Semester Pass (100 hours; 4 VR sessions) – $225 ($103 savings)

Free – Arcade Machines, as well as Xbox Series X, PS5, and Switch available for free on a first-come, first-served basis at 3 different 55” TVs. Controllers and available games can be checked out for use at front desk.

Rules

No Bullying – Zero tolerance policy for harassment based upon any aspect of a person’s identity. This also includes no threats of violence or acts of intimidation that will encourage a hostile environment or situation.

No Cheating – No cheating, match fixing, or other means of gaining an unfair advantage. Any act that compromises the competitive integrity of a game or competition is not permitted.

Stay Clean – No open containers of food or drink are permitted in the Esports Arena. A sealable drink is permitted while you are not seated at a gaming PC.

Self-Care – Be mindful of your fellow gamers. We encourage you to practice good hygiene. Keep noise levels at a non-disruptive level and no excessive use of profanity.

Data Security – Always log out of your accounts. Do not share any login information with other users, even staff. Brookdale Esports is not responsible for compromised accounts. Do not download, share, or view any illegal or explicit content on the Arena’s equipment.

Personal Devices – Always ask for assistance before you connect any of your own devices or peripherals to Brookdale Esports Equipment. This also includes downloading games from your personal library onto our PCs and consoles.

Competition

Brookdale Community College is a member institution of NJCAAE for all intercollegiate competition. You may find all their information and what they offer on the NJCAAE Website. From Tier 1 varsity status all the way down to intramurals, there will be all levels of competition offered to our students. Brookdale Community College will be fielding teams at the varsity level for the following video game titles: Rocket League, Valorant, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. These current titles are subject to change and more titles may be added based upon student interest.

Varsity Team Tryouts

Brookdale Esports Tryouts Pertinent Information

Tryouts will be held in-person only at the Esports Arena located on the first floor of the Student Life Center (SLC) building at the following date and times:

Varsity Teams

Valorant – September 13, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.
Rocket League – September 14, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – September 15, 2023 5:00 p.m.

Requirements

Attend Brookdale as Full-Time Student
Maintain 2.0 GPA
Be able to attend all practices and official matches

Tryouts will consist of the following:

Introductions and getting to know one another
Breaking off into groups in Discord guided by in game rank and desired role
Scrimming while our coach(es) walk around and analyze game play

Criteria that will be judged:

Communication
Rank
Teamwork
Mechanics (aim, movement, positioning, etc.)
Attitude
