The excitement is unmistakable as Brookdale Community College’s Esports team, the Jersey Blues, gears up to compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAE) National Championship Valorant Tournament Finals. The team’s remarkable journey to the finals has been punctuated by an undefeated streak, demonstrating its strong skillset and dedication to excellence in competitive gaming.

Last week, four teams competed in a single elimination tournament: Bergen Community College, Laredo College, Brookdale Community College, and Salt Lake Community College.

After a decisive victory against Salt Lake Community College last Thursday, the Jersey Blues are now set to face off against the undefeated Palominos from Laredo College, Texas, in what promises to be an electrifying showdown. The championship match is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. EST and will be broadcast live on the NJCAAE’s official Twitch page https://www.twitch.tv/njcaae or come watch the team play at the Brookdale Esports Arena.

Director of Brookdale’s Esports program, Chris Boehmer, emphasized the significance of Esports for the students, stating, “Esports provides invaluable support to education by fostering teamwork, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills within a team. The success of our Esports team not only reflects their dedication and talent but underscores the potential of Esports to enhance the academic experience.”

The Jersey Blues’ lineup for the match is:

Will “skrub” Ahlfeld, studying data science,

Fernando “fait” Davila, currently an undecided major

Dean “7echh” Casiere, studying criminal justice

Ahlfeld, the team captain, expressed the team’s enthusiasm and confidence ahead of the finals, stating, “We are absolutely PUMPED to play this week – we are more than ready! In order to defeat LC, we are fine-tuning our own strategies and making sure we can play our own game against them. We are confident that our strategies will bring us the victory.”
