Brookdale Community College is pleased to announce that Gabriela “Gabi” Ramirez Hernandez (Long Branch, NJ) has been selected to receive the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to study or intern abroad in summer 2023.

Gabi is pursuing the associate degree in culinary arts and will be completing her required externship in Japan from July through August. She will be gaining valuable experience at Yomisha Yakitori restaurant in Sado, an island off the coast of Japan. The island is known for cultivation of rice, producing a top Japanese brand. Of her upcoming experience Gabi says, “When I go to Japan, I am most looking forward to gaining new perspectives in my Culinary field and in everyday life. This will be a life changing experience for me and I’m going into this headfirst!”

The Gilman Scholarship is an initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and is supported in its implementation by the Institute of International Education (IIE).
