Brookdale Community College esports standout Paul “Synnister” Paul has claimed his third NJCAAE National Championship, further cementing his legacy as one of the top collegiate esports competitors in the country.
Competing in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Paul defeated Marshalltown Community College of Iowa in dominant fashion, sweeping the National Finals 4-0 in the best-of-seven championship matchup.
Under the leadership of Coach “Brad” Brandon Ebanks and the guidance of Chris Boehmer, Director of Brookdale Esports, Paul powered through both the Regional and National brackets without dropping a single match, showcasing a level of play that separated him from the competition.
“Paul has seemingly reached another level,” said Boehmer. “This is his last competing semester as he moves on to Rutgers next semester, and I’m so proud that he goes out on such a high note.”
Ranked No. 1 in New Jersey as part of Brookdale’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team, Paul has become a recognizable force in collegiate esports. Known for competing with his signature character RYU and for his love of the anime series Blue Lock, Paul balanced elite competition while pursuing his academic goals at Brookdale.
Paul will graduate in May with an associate degree in Accounting before continuing his education at Rutgers University.
His latest national title marks another milestone for Brookdale Esports, one of the College’s fastest-growing and most successful competitive programs.
