LINCROFT, NJ (Oct. 9, 2015) – Brookdale Community College Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Maureen Lawrence has been named the 2015 Nonprofit CFO of the Year by business news organization NJBIZ.

Lawrence, of Howell, was selected from a pool of five finalists for the award, which was presented during an Oct. 9 award ceremony at the Palace at Somerset Park, in Somerset.

“It’s wonderful to be recognized by other finance professionals, but I’ve always felt like a winner working for Brookdale,” said Lawrence, who has served as Brookdale’s vice president of finance and operations since January 2013. “I’m blessed to truly love what I do.”

As Brookdale’s CFO, Lawrence has overseen efforts to close a multi-million dollar budget deficit at the college by reducing operating expenses, procuring grants and identifying outside funding sources for a wide range of campus improvement projects.

Lawrence has worked as an accounts, grants and finance professional at Brookdale since 2003. She previously worked as a budget analyst with the Department of Defense and as a senior staff member for KPMG, LLP, in Princeton.

She received her undergraduate degree in accounting from Monmouth University, her Master’s degree in administrative sciences from Fairleigh Dickinson University and is currently pursuing a PhD in Education from Seton Hall University.

The NJBIZ CFO of the Year awards celebrate New Jersey’s financial executives from the public, private, nonprofit and healthcare sectors who contribute to the economic growth of their company and the Garden State. Five other financial professionals received awards on Oct. 9.
