Comic Book Men’s Ming Chen Comes to Brookdale for Breaking In Lecture Series

Fans of comics, film, television, and pop culture will have a chance to hear firsthand from Ming Chen of “Comic Book Men” when he comes to Brookdale Community College on Wednesday, October 21, at 6:30 p.m. as a featured guest in the Breaking In Lecture Series.

The event will be held in the Navesink Rooms on the second floor of the Student Life Center on Brookdale’s Lincroft campus, 765 Newman Springs Road. Showrunner Brian Nashel will moderate the conversation, which will include an opportunity for audience members to ask Chen questions about his career and experiences in the entertainment industry.

Chen’s path into the industry began in 1995 while he was a college student and video store employee. A fan of filmmaker Kevin Smith’s “Clerks,” Chen created a fan website devoted to the film. This early connection would eventually lead him to Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash and a role on the television series “Comic Book Men.”

The evening will give students, aspiring filmmakers, entertainment professionals, and fans an opportunity to hear the story behind Chen’s unconventional career path and learn more about breaking into a competitive creative industry.

The Breaking In Lecture Series brings entertainment-industry professionals to Brookdale to share their experiences, career journeys and perspectives with students and the community. Through candid conversations with working professionals, the series provides a closer look at the many paths available in film, television, and related creative fields.

Tickets are $20 for the general public and free for Brookdale students who register in advance.
