The Global Citizenship Project and the Students 4 Global Citizenship (S4GC) club are excited to announce Brookdale’s 2027 Global Read selection, Solito: A Memoir by Javier Zamora.
Solito tells the story of a nine-year-old child traveling alone from El Salvador to the United States to reunite with his family. Through themes of migration, family, resilience, identity, belonging, and hope, the memoir offers meaningful opportunities for discussion across many disciplines and resonates with a wide range of student experiences.
Students 4 Global Citizenship (S4GC) strive to raise awareness of global issues and diversity at Brookdale and beyond. The club seeks to effect change locally and globally by partnering with relevant organizations and empowering people to address inequities and promote human rights. In support of that mission, S4GC is hosting the Kick-Off event for Brookdale’s 2027 Global Read and invites the entire BCC campus community to participate.
We invite faculty, staff, and students to join us for the Global Read Kick-Off Event:
