What makes people happy? How do equality, community, and nature contribute to well-being? Students can explore these questions firsthand during Brookdale Community College’s Summer 2027 faculty-led study abroad program, Psychology in Action: Happiness, Sexuality, and Equality, in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Traveling June 7–14, 2027, students will immerse themselves in Iceland’s culture while examining positive psychology, human relationships, social equality, and resilience in one of the happiest and most progressive countries in the world

Led by Dr. Brian Oland and Professor Marlena Frank, the program allows students to earn credit or audit several psychology courses while experiencing how inclusive communities and the natural environment influence mental health and human flourishing.

Beyond the classroom, students will visit many of Iceland’s most spectacular natural and cultural attractions, including the Blue Lagoon, Golden Circle, Geysir geothermal area, Gullfoss Waterfall, Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, Reynisfjara black sand beach, and a sustainable tomato farm. Participants will also learn about the country’s approach to equality through a visit with representatives from the Ministry of Justice and Gender Equality.

The six-night program includes land and air, with the group traveling together with their professors. Accommodations in central Reykjavik, daily breakfast, welcome and farewell dinners, airport transfers, transportation throughout Iceland, local guides, admissions to all scheduled activities, on-site coordination, and health insurance.

The program costs $4,140 through October 31, 2026, increasing to $4,290 after the Early Bird deadline. A $500 deposit is required.
