The fifth annual Minority Male Initiative (MMI) Conference will take place at Brookdale Community College on Friday, February 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Navesink Rooms in the Student Life Center on the Lincroft campus. This year’s theme is Charting Your Career Course.

The conference is a joint effort between Brookdale and the Monmouth and Ocean County Pan Hellenic Council. It is sponsored by Hackensack Meridian Health, FirstEnergy, Two River Theater and the Brookdale Educational Opportunity Fund.

Former New Jersey Secretary of Higher Education Dr. Rochelle Hendricks is the keynote speaker. She was named the first Secretary of Higher Education in 2011. During Dr. Hendricks’ tenure, she led several  groundbreaking initiatives to facilitate innovation, equity and continuous excellence including: the New Jersey Prior Learning Assessment Network (NJPLAN), New Jersey STEM Pathways Network (NJSPN), the Higher Education Student Success Collaborative, NJ Coalition of Anchor Institutions and the Entrepreneurship/Global Impact Program and Award. Secretary Hicks is a founding member of the Policy Steering Council for the Center for Higher Education Strategic Information and Governance at Stockton University, a member of the Educational Leadership Foundation of New Jersey Board, the NJ Innovation Institute Board, NJCCC’s Student Success Advisory Board and several national boards.

Attendees can participate in a variety of career cluster workshop sessions during the conference and hear from professionals in five career disciplines: Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM); Communications Media; Health Sciences; Business and Social Sciences and Theater.

“This event provides an opportunity for students to meet and network with professionals from various careers,” said Dr. Fidel Wilson, Brookdale EOF success coach.
