Brookdale’s Carl Calendar Visiting Writers Series continues with 2 award-winning authors Bushra Rehman and Ruth Irupe´ Sanabria on April 29.

Rehman’s debut novel, Corona, about being South Asian in the United States, landed a spot on the Poets & Writers Best Debut Fiction list. It was also featured in the LA Review of Books. Her poems, stories and essays have appeared in several publications and reflect her experiences growing up in an immigrant neighborhood in Queens, N.Y. Rehman recently published a poetry collection, Marianna’s Beauty Salon.

Sananbria’s poetry focuses on the themes of human rights, injustice and the role of art in resistance. The Strange House Testifies, her first collection of poetry, earned second place in the 2010 Annual Latino Book Awards. Her second collection, Beasts Behave in Foreign Land, was awarded the 2014 Letras Latinas/ Red Hen Press Award.

The Visiting Writers Series brings poets, authors, and playwrights to Brookdale’s campus throughout the year.

This event is free and open to the public. It will take place in the Navesink rooms of the Warner Student Life Center from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
