Ed Johnson

Ed Johnson is the Executive Director of Governmental Affairs and Community Relations at Brookdale Community College, where he leads strategic engagement with government, higher education, nonprofit, and private sector partners to advance institutional priorities and strengthen community impact.

As a political scientist and educator, he serves as an Adjunct Faculty member at Rutgers University, NJIT and Brookdale Community College, teaching and mentoring students while contributing to public policy and civic leadership initiatives.

Recognized for his expertise in community building, economic development, and public affairs, Johnson is a sought-after speaker and advisor who regularly participates in international forums, university seminars, and leadership workshops. His work has taken him to the global stage, including presenting from the City Hall Stage at Expo City Dubai and collaborating with municipal, academic, and business leaders worldwide. In recognition of his civic leadership and international contributions, he was awarded Honorary Membership in the Global Parliament of Mayors in 2018 and continues to serve as an Honorary Member and Ambassador for the organization.

Before joining Brookdale, Johnson dedicated more than 15 years to public service in his hometown of Asbury Park, New Jersey, serving in elected and appointed leadership positions including Mayor, Councilman, and Chairman of the Urban Enterprise Zone. During this period, he played a key role in the city’s transformation and revitalization efforts, helping to foster economic growth, public-private partnerships, and community redevelopment.

His leadership and commitment to public service have earned numerous honors, including Brookdale Community College’s highest distinction, the Barringer Award. Throughout his career, Johnson has remained committed to building partnerships that create opportunities for communities, strengthen institutions, and drive meaningful social and economic progress.
