On Saturday, October 14th, the Brookdale Community College Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Athletic Department will be offering the opportunity to support the men’s and women’s soccer teams while raising awareness and donations for ovarian cancer research in a campaign called, Brookdale Kicks for Cancer.
The men’s and women’s soccer teams will be hosting a double-header conference game against the RCSJ – Gloucester Roadrunners beginning at 12:00pm. During the games, there will be a tent set up with refreshments, swag from the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA), and an area for donations to support an important cause. Between the women’s and men’s game, there will be a brief presentation regarding ovarian cancer awareness, prevention, and education. All refreshment proceeds will go directly to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance.
In 2004, Assistant Director of Athletics & Recreation, Trish Taylor, lost her mom at the age of 62 after a 3-year battle with ovarian cancer as did Coordinator of Athletics & Recreation, Eddie Galante, who lost his maternal grandmother in 1955. She battled in silence since it was not detected with the lack of technology.
“I think about my mother every single day. For years I have wanted to help organize a fundraiser in support of ovarian cancer research following my mom’s courageous battle. Combining the great love for my mom with my love of sports for an amazing cause to help others is overwhelming, my heart is full,” said Taylor.
