LINCROFT, NJ (Nov. 3, 2015) – The Brookdale Big Band will celebrate three decades of swing, jazz and high-energy entertainment with a special anniversary concert on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. in the Brookdale Community College Performing Arts Center, 765 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft.

Founded by Brookdale faculty in 1985, the group features a revolving lineup of acclaimed jazz and swing musicians from Monmouth County and across New Jersey. The current group includes Fair Haven resident and Brookdale instructor Gary Mazzaroppi, who played bass alongside legendary guitarist Les Paul in the Les Paul Trio, and renowned Broadway trumpeter Joe Mosello.

Performing the repertoire of jazz greats like Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker and Benny Goodman, the Big Band specializes in live improvisation and eclectic set lists from the 1940’s and 1950’s.

The group has played more than 250 shows over the past 30 years, including local fairs, jazz festivals, veterans commemorations and the decommissioning of the USS Artic at Naval Weapons Station Earle in Colts Neck on Flag Day in 2002.

“It has been a labor of love, and we have enjoyed every minute,” said founding member and current vocalist Barbara Baron. “The world recognizes swing music as one of America’s great contributions to world culture, and it has been very fulfilling to be a part of its preservation. We have introduced thousands of people to this music over the past three decades, and we are proud of that.”

The Big Band currently features 18 musicians in total, representing towns such as Freehold, Hazlet, Colts Neck, Rumson, Tinton Falls, Marlboro, Fair Haven, Asbury Park, Sea Girt and Atlantic Highlands. A Brookdale student will also play drums for the group during the 30th anniversary performance.

Tickets for the concert are $17, with discount admission offered to seniors, local high students and Brookdale students and alumni. To purchase tickets or for more information call the Performing Arts Center Box Office at 732-224-2411 or visit www.brookdalecc.edu/pac.
