Brookdale Community College will celebrate a new class of student leaders at its 2026 Tau Upsilon Alpha (TUA) Induction Ceremony on Thursday, May 14, recognizing academic excellence and a shared commitment to service in the field of human services.
This year’s inductees, Timothy Guiney, Mia Cavin, James Bellas, Chelsea McKeon, Brayden Miranda, and Amanda Demeo, will be formally welcomed into Tau Upsilon Alpha, the nationally recognized Human Services Honor Society. TUA is a program of the National Organization for Human Services (NOHS) and is dedicated to honoring academic achievement, fostering lifelong learning and leadership, and promoting excellence in service to humanity.
Guided by the NOHS Code of Ethics and the society’s motto, “Excellence in Service to Humanity,” TUA members are recognized not only for their academic success but also for their dedication to making a meaningful impact in the lives of others.
The symbolism of the TUA emblem reflects that mission. A circle surrounding a group of figures represents a holistic approach to care, recognizing the importance of supporting the whole person within their community. The diverse figures within the circle highlight the profession’s commitment to serving individuals from all backgrounds, reinforcing the core values of cultivating, collaborating, and connecting.
The ceremony will feature guest speaker Kevin B. Henry, an esteemed Brookdale alum and TUA member whose career exemplifies these principles in action.
Currently pursuing his Master of Social Work at the University of New England, Henry has built a strong foundation in both academic and practice settings. He earned his Bachelor of Social Work summa cum laude from Maryville University of St. Louis and holds multiple professional credentials, including Certified Social Worker (CSW), Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), and Human Services–Board Certified Practitioner (HS-BCP).
Henry brings hands-on clinical experience from his roles as a Primary Counselor at JSAS HealthCare, Inc. and Group Facilitator at Rebirth Recovery Center, where he supports individuals on their path to recovery through individual and group counseling. His work also extends into the community through advocacy consulting, grant writing, and serving as a Narcan® trainer, helping to educate communities on overdose prevention and response.
Rooted in trauma-informed care and a deep commitment to advocacy, Henry’s journey reflects the very values TUA seeks to instill in its members using education, compassion, and service to create lasting change.
The ceremony will include the presentation of certificates, followed by a reception with light refreshments, offering students, faculty, and guests an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the inductees.
As Brookdale welcomes its newest members into Tau Upsilon Alpha, the College continues to champion the next generation of human services professionals. Individuals are prepared not only to succeed but to lead with empathy, purpose, and a dedication to improving the communities they serve.
