On February 5, 2025, Brookdale Community College’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted a celebratory brunch in the Robert J. Collins Arena VIP suite to honor the achievements of the Jersey Blues’ women student-athletes on National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD). This year’s NGWSD theme, “EmpowHER the Future,” aligns with the 50th anniversary of the National Junior College Athletic Association’s (NJCAA) women’s division, highlighting the successes of past and present female student-athletes.
The NJCAA, established in 1938, became the first intercollegiate organization to introduce a women’s division in 1975. Over the past five decades, it has expanded to host 30 national championships and invitationals for women across various sports. Dr. Christopher Parker, NJCAA President & CEO, emphasized the association’s commitment to women’s athletics, stating, “The NJCAA holds a rich history with women in college athletics. Lea Plarski’s guidance to begin the women’s division began a movement that has impacted college athletics at all levels in a big way.”
As part of the NGWSD celebrations, the NJCAA encouraged member colleges, student-athletes, and fans to highlight the achievements of female athletes on social media using the hashtag #EmpowHerTheFuture. This collective effort aims to promote equality in sports and inspire future generations of women athletes.
Brookdale Community College remains committed to empowering its women student-athletes, celebrating their accomplishments, and advocating for equality in sports.
