Two teams of Brookdale fashion design students earned top honors in the third Annual Rags to Runway in March 11. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of New Brunswick, student fashion and costume designers get $100 dollars to spend on items from thrift shops to develop various fashion statements for the runway.

“Our students put in a lot of time and effort in the competition,” said Alexis Jankowski, fashion design and merchandising instructor. “Their dedication and talents rose to the top, and it’s great to see them recognized for their skills and creativity.”

A student team consisting of Amber Moran of Leonardo, Elway Zheng of Hazlet, Hannah Shevlin of Tinton Falls, and Emma Fitzgerald of Bayville earned first place in the Best Casual Look category. The second student team of Julia Flatley of Toms River, Jaclyn Ginsberg of Old Bridge, Amanda Yarznbowicz of Matawan, and Brittany Schwartz of Manasquan took first place in the Best Formal Look and Best “Sea Inspired” Look categories.

The Rags to Runway competition supports the Rotary Club’s organization’s foundation which provides scholarships and supports other charitable causes statewide.
