On Sunday, April 6th, Brookdale Community College’s longtime baseball head coach, Johnny Johnson, became the winningest coach in Jersey Blues history with 859 wins.

With a pair of wins over the Bergen Community College Bulldogs on Sunday, April 6th, Johnson notched his 859th win, surpassing the previous record of 858 held by the legendary previous head coach of 28 years, Paul MacLaughlin.

Johnson was a former Brookdale player in 1982 and is only the second-ever head coach in the programs history since it began in 1970. He took over the program in 1999 and for 26 years he has continued the gritty, much-respected, and winning tradition that has been established from the beginning.

In response to how it feels to reach this milestone, Johnson stated, “It’s an honor, but most importantly, this record is about all of my players who bought into our system and my assistant coaches who have been nothing but loyal to me. You can’t have a successful program without a great athletic administration, which we have the best around.

There might be better programs out there, but there is nothing like the Brookdale Baseball family. I don’t see it as passing a coach’s record but maintaining what he started over 50 years ago. My players all know that I love them and have their backs. Like I always say, nothing better than the Brookdale family.”
