“Brookdale has been my home for many years, and I am going to be sad leaving it behind in May,” said Brookdale Community College student Jessica Doria. “Brookdale made me who I am today, and I am grateful for the time I spent here,” the nursing student said.

“I absolutely love this college and campus,” Doria said of Brookdale. She has completed associate degrees in paralegal studies and education at Brookdale. “I am back for my third degree, and I am so grateful that Brookdale has been on this journey with me the whole way,” she said.

Doria is starting her final semester in the nursing program. “My nursing instructors have all been so amazing,” she said. “I pushed off going to nursing school for about ten years, but all of my instructors have pushed me and believed in me the entire way. I am thankful for their support and guidance.”

To help finance her nursing degree, Doria received the Brookdale Foundation and Alumni Association Scholarship. “Being in nursing school is a full-time job, so I am only able to work part-time in the hospital as a patient care tech,” she said. “Receiving this scholarship helped me because living paycheck to paycheck is a hard way to pay the bills, especially because I pay for school on my own.” The scholarship helped reduce her tuition so she was able to pursue a nursing degree.

In addition to going to school, Doria works for Hackensack Meridian Health and hopes to continue working there after receiving her nursing degree this May. She also plans on continuing her education to get her bachelor’s degree in nursing.

“Brookdale is an amazing school. This is the place where you find yourself and where you can try new things,” said Doria. She said it is okay to not know what you want to major in or what career you are interested in pursuing. “Brookdale will help you answer those questions and it will not cost you a fortune figuring it out.”

Every academic year, over 500 Brookdale Community College students receive nearly $450,000 in scholarship assistance from the Brookdale Foundation and the Brookdale Alumni Association. These scholarships help students like Doria complete their educational goals. For more information about the Brookdale Foundation, please visit brookdalecc.edu/advancement/Brookdale-foundation.
