Brookdale to Offer Homeland Security and Emergency Management Degree

LINCROFT, NJ (May 26, 2015) – Brookdale Community College will host an information session for the college’s new Homeland Security and Emergency Management degree program at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9 on the Lincroft campus.

Community members are invited to meet with college faculty and learn about growing career opportunities in counterterrorism, law enforcement, emergency management, international relations and similar career fields.

“There are many new job opportunities becoming available in these sectors, at the federal, state and local levels,” said Brookdale criminal justice chair Guy Pellicane. “This unique degree program will prepare students to take advantage of those opportunities.”

The new associate in science (A.S.) degree program prepares students to enter the workforce or transfer seamlessly into a bachelor’s degree program at a four-year college or university.

Coursework focuses on career-oriented skills such as intelligence gathering and analysis, emergency operations planning, the use of industry technology and application of ethical standards.

Courses are taught by industry professionals such as Ronald Facciponti, former federal security director at Atlantic City International Airport and a retired New York City police captain who responded to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Guy McCormick, director of homeland security for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, will teach in the program as well.
