Brookdale Volunteers Continue Nearly 20-Year Tradition of Spreading Holiday Cheer with HABcore
For nearly two decades, Brookdale Community College volunteers have embraced the spirit of giving during the holidays, partnering with HABcore to bring joy to residents in need. This year, the tradition continued with the annual Stuff a Stocking event, resulting in 21 stockings filled with thoughtful gifts for HABcore’s Red Bank group home residents and 13 candy boxes for the hardworking HABcore staff.
Brookdale’s Volunteer Connection spearheaded the effort, collecting stockings stuffed with essentials like hats, scarves, gloves, candy, cookies, and toiletries. The stockings and boxes of candy were delivered on December 18 by Ann Marie Alfieri, Chair of Volunteers, and Lynn Johnson, who also purchased the stockings and assisted with the delivery.
Phil and Michelle, managers at the Coffey House, expressed heartfelt gratitude for Brookdale’s longstanding generosity, sharing how much the residents look forward to this annual tradition. “The stockings brighten the holidays for our residents and remind them that the community cares,” they said.
HABcore, a nonprofit dedicated to providing supportive and affordable housing for veterans, families with children, and individuals with special needs, serves approximately 700 people, including 147 children, across three counties. For nearly 36 years, HABcore has been a lifeline for those transitioning from homelessness to stability, offering dignity and hope to the most vulnerable.
Brookdale’s commitment to this cause reflects its dedication to community service and making a tangible difference in the lives of others. This annual event is a testament to the college’s enduring partnership with HABcore and its mission to restore stability and joy to residents during the holiday season.
