Students in grades 5-12 and their families are encouraged to attend We Are the Change: Our Voices Matter. The Center for Holocaust, Human Rights, and Genocide Education (Chhange) invites you to attend the 37th Annual Change Colloquium on May 15 to learn how to be agents of change in your respective communities.

Ziad Ahmed, founder of redefy.org and Yale University Student, is one of the keynote speakers for the event. Redefy is an organization committed to furthering equality that Ahmed started in 2013. He was recognized as one of MTV’s “Top 9 teens Changing the World.”

Brookdale alumna Brenda Codallos, student upstander for the DREAM Act and current Rutgers University student, is another keynote speaker.

Sarah Emily Baum and Christianah Akinsanmi, student leaders for March for Our Lives NJ, will be speaking about the state’s organization of the national movement led and inspired by activists from Parkland, Florida who survived the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Rebekah Bruesehoff, a 12-year-old middle school student, will speak about her fight for the rights of trans and gender non-conforming people.

After the keynote speakers, there will be more than 30 breakout session where attendees can join local Holocaust and genocide survivors, community upstanders, engaging educators, and other workshop leaders to learn more about how to stand up to hate. Topics addressed in the workshops include: racism, antisemitism, homophobia, the Civil Rights Movement, inclusiveness, the Holocaust, genocide and other tools needed to combat hate in our communities.

Everyone attending the Colloquium is invited to view Chhange’s 6th Annual Student Art Installation. It is based on the theme We are the Change: Our Voices Matter. Students from throughout New Jersey used art to express their own views about important causes.
