Between Experience and Reality
The spring 2024 exhibition Between Experience & Reality, featured a dynamic collection of photography, blending works from Brookdale students with pieces by renowned 20th-century artists. In addition to the visual display, the exhibition pioneered a significant initiative in accessibility and technology integration, enhancing the way art was interpreted and experienced.
As part of the exhibition, the CVA Gallery, in partnership with Brookdale’s DEI services, hosted the Alt-Text as Poetry workshop led by Bojana Coklyat and Shannon Finnegan. This online workshop taught participants how to write creative alt-texts for digital platforms, providing greater access to visual art and design for individuals with low or no vision. Based on the open-source “Alt Text as Poetry” workbook, the workshop emphasized the importance of equitable access to art, underscoring the exhibition’s theme of bridging experience and reality for all viewers.
