Civility Week
Get Involved in Civility Week 2025 – Democracy Takes Courage
Call for Submissions & Proposals
Civility Week events FALL: October 6-10, 2025 and SPRING: February 16-20, 2026
We invite students, faculty, and departments to reinforce their commitment to democracy and contribute to Civility Week with presentations, workshops, panels, performances, and exhibits that explore democracy and civic life. New this year, we are inviting whole departments to contribute and represent themselves. What stories, research, or creative projects do you have to share?
Democracy is not a spectator sport. The county, state and country will be participating in America 250, commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence and remember our own Jersey Blues history.
Here are some ideas for submissions based on key topics of democracy:
- The Foundations of Democracy – Presentations on the history of democracy, constitutional rights, and civic responsibility
- Democracy & the Media – Workshops on misinformation, media literacy, and the role of journalism in democracy
- Voting Rights & Election Integrity – Panels on voter access, election reform, and civic participation
- Democracy & Economic Justice – Discussions on campaign financing, corporate influence, and grassroots movements.
- Activism & Civic Engagement – Storytelling events on political action, social movements, and advocacy
- Free Speech & Civil Discourse – Debates and dialogues on how to engage in political conversations with respect
- Democracy & Marginalized Communities – Research presentations on voting disparities and representation gaps
- Global Perspectives on Democracy – Comparative studies of democratic systems around the world
- The Future of Democracy – Interactive sessions on technology, reform, and youth movements in politics
