Babylon to Bauhaus

For many designers, a trip to Germany means a pilgrimage to the Bauhaus, and that visit will certainly be one of the highlights of our journey. But Modernism did not emerge in isolation. To understand it fully, we must also understand what came before 1919. Along the way, we’ll explore the elegant restraint of Biedermeier, the influential work of Karl Friedrich Schinkel, and the broader currents of Art Nouveau and Art Deco that helped shape modern design across Europe. Our itinerary also includes many of Germany’s most iconic landmarks, museums, and historic sites—from the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag to Sanssouci, Berlin’s remarkable Pergamon Museum, and more. But be sure to save some energy to explore the vibrant city of Berlin during your free time.
