Brookdale Community College has awarded two students funding to participate in study abroad programs in summer 2023. The Elaine Baran Scholarship was established to honor the life and achievements of Elaine Baran, a former faculty member of languages, who was dedicated to Brookdale and the global community alike. Her passion and motivation for promoting cross-cultural and global experiences were instrumental in the development of Brookdale’s international programs. Summer 2023 recipients of Brookdale’s Elaine Baran Scholarship are:

Samuel Tsai (Holmdel, NJ), who is majoring in Psychology, will be participating in Brookdale’s faculty-led program to London.

“I’m very much looking forward to London as it is my dream to go there. I was born in Belize, and England has close ties with Belize,” said Tsai.  “I’ll be visiting the Freud Museum where I will get to see the origin and the roots of psychoanalysis which his daughter persevered of his research.”

Danielle Johnson (Atlantic Highlands, NJ), is majoring in Media Studies and will be participating in Brookdale’s faculty-led program to London.

“I am most excited to be able to immerse myself in a different culture and be able to understand the different perspectives of communication in another country,” said Johnson. “I also hope to strengthen skills such as intercultural communication.”
