Massage Therapy Information Session

If you are interested in Brookdale’s Massage Therapy program, you should contact Scott Shanes at sshanes@brookdalecc.edu. You will learn about the newly expanded program, prerequisite requirements, and required documentation. Also, you will have the opportunity to meet the program coordinator and learn about the job of a Massage Therapist and whether it is a career you wish to pursue. The program starts early September 2019.


Massage Therapy

Newly expanded to include Mental Health First Aid and HIPAA Compliance.

Students will now be eligible for 3 college credits specific to Medical Terminology!

Study and practice to become a competent New Jersey Licensed Massage Therapist. This 712-hour comprehensive program includes 564 lecture and lab hours, 48 online hours, and 100 hours of supervised clinical practice. Online topics include Keys to Effective Communication and HIPAA Compliance. A Massage Kit is included with tuition. The kits provide necessary tools for success within the program and beyond graduation.

Areas of Study: Massage Ethics and Practice in Swedish Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular Therapy, Prenatal Massage, Reflexology, and Sports Massage. Focus is also placed on Laws and Regulations, Anatomy & Physiology, Kinesiology, Pathology, Client Assessment, Reassessment, and Treatment Planning, Business Practices, Self-Care, Body Mechanics, and First Aid/CPR certification.

Upon successful completion of the program, you are eligible to sit for the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Exam (MBLEx) which is a requirement to obtain your New Jersey Massage and Bodywork Therapy License.

Prerequisites (Instructions to access prerequisite forms will be emailed to you upon registration):

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Clear criminal background check
  • Copy of malpractice insurance face sheet
  • Interview into the program
  • Documentation of immunizations and 2 step PPD

Note: Text books required. 100% attendance is required. An additional fee will be charged to students for class make-up hours.

Gainful Employment Certificate Program Disclosure

New Jersey law requires applicants for licensure to successfully complete a minimum of 500 hours in class study in the field of massage and bodywork therapies AND successfully complete a written examination approved by the Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy.
