Treating Relational Trauma
Cindy Browning, LCSW
This workshop for licensed counselors, social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists and marriage and family therapists, will provide an overview of the treatment of relational trauma as described by Pia Mellody, RN, with a focus on attachment theory. The workshop is appropriate for the seasoned practitioner, those experienced in other forms of trauma treatment as well as the newly licensed clinician. Pia Mellody’s comprehensive model, Post Induction Therapy, is both a “top down” and a “bottom up” approach. Specifically, there is a behavioral component, “top down”, which creates lifestyle changes through striving for balance in what Pia Mellody calls the “core issues”. Also essential are “from the bottom up” interventions and procedures for successful healing of relational trauma, without which balance in the core issues is difficult or impossible. Attachment and interpersonal neurobiology theory will be used as support in understanding this model. Through a combination of lectures, discussion, demonstrations and small group supervised practice, you will receive an overview of the following:
- A trauma perspective of your client’s current problems and issues
- How to create a trauma treatment plan
- The impact of relational trauma on mental health, physical health and relationships
- An overview of experiential techniques and processes for healing relational trauma
- The information and education needed to impart to clients for successful trauma healing and balance in the core issues
During experiential supervised practice participants use their own family history and experiences to gain a better understanding of how to apply this work in their own lives and with their clients.
This workshop is the first in a series and is intended to be followed by Practical Aspects of Trauma Treatment: The Inner Child and Feelings Reduction Techniques of Pia Mellody’s Post-Induction Therapy.
This workshop includes water, light refreshments and a manual for use with your clients; lunch is a one-hour break.
Ce-classes.com is the provider of CEUs for this workshop. CEU approval is pending final approval of CE-classes.com. After completion of the workshop. Participants print their own certificates after registering at ce-classes.com, entering a keycode, and completing an evaluation form.
Preparation: Please note that due to experiential nature of the workshop, the number of participants is limited. A set of forms will be emailed to registrants and must be completed and returned no later than May 26,2017. Please consider reading Pia Mellody’s Facing Co-dependence, Facing Love Addiction, and The Intimacy Factor books.
