Matawan artist Maria Milazzo will unveil her latest collection, “Paints the World,” at the Caroline Huber Holistic Wellness Center on the campus of Brookdale Community College. The exhibition’s opening reception and artist talk are scheduled for April 18 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will run through June 1, 2024.

Milazzo, a graduate of Kean University with a B.A. in Fine Arts/Teacher Certification, has been an influential figure in the Matawan, NJ, community. She has been teaching art to children and adults since 1991. Her work, marked by its ever-changing style, reflects her evolving perspective on the world around her. Milazzo finds inspiration in her annual visits to Captn Jack’s Wharf in Cape Cod, where she draws from the colorful people, historical landscapes, and vibrant atmosphere of Provincetown.

“The style of my work is ever changing as it reflects the ever-changing outlook I have on my own little world,” says Milazzo. “I have a lot to be thankful for that I have been guided to the path of artistic expression. It has become something very strong within me that I carry along wherever I go.”

For her latest exhibition, Milazzo embarked on a virtual journey using Google Earth, painting scenes alphabetically from Austria to Zambia. Each artwork is imbued with the essence of its cultural context, serving as a conduit for global connection. Guided by the rhythms and flavors of distant lands, Milazzo dispatched these creations worldwide, sharing her mission of fostering unity through art.

“As these works find homes worldwide via platforms like Fine Art America, I’m continually enriched by the universal gestures of kindness they elicit, marking a decade-long odyssey that has transformed both my art and myself,” says Milazzo.

The exhibition, co-sponsored by the International Education Center, The Global Citizenship Project, and the CVA Gallery, highlights Milazzo’s work’s cross-cultural significance. Attendees of the opening reception will be able to engage with the artist and gain insight into her creative process.

“We are thrilled to host Maria Milazzo’s ‘Paints the World’ exhibition at the Caroline Huber Holistic Wellness Center,” said Director Summer Deaver. “Her art is a powerful reminder of the universal language that transcends borders and unites us all.”
