We’ll cover the history of Ireland from 1601, the defeat of the last of the Gaelic Princes and effective end of Ireland under the Brehon Laws, through the formal recognition of a free and independent Irish Republic in April of 1948. Emphasis will be given to continuing efforts to maintain a Gaelic cultural and religious heritage across years of oppression, Irish resistance to colonial rule, the Act of Union, An Gorta Mor (The Irish Potato Famine), Home Rule, the Easter Rebellion and aftermath and the transition from the Irish Free State to a Republic.
