Part-Time Summer Camp Director - Borough of Matawan, NJ
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced PT Summer Rec Camp Director to oversee our educational summer camp program. As the Camp Director, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the camp, having true ownership over camp programs and curriculum. You will have the opportunity to include your own ideas, talents, and creativity, including program development and staff supervision, while ensuring a safe and enriching experience for all campers. Leading a team of camp counselors and counselors in training, you will have the main responsibility of creating a memorable and meaningful camp experience for the campers, ranging in age from Kindergarten to 8th Grade.
The Rec Camp will take place June 24 to August 2, Monday through Friday, from 8:30am to 1:00pm. (Closed July 4th) Some planning meetings and orientations will be held prior to the start of camp.
Job Responsibilities
• Develop and implement a comprehensive camp program and day-to-day administration of camp.
• Designing/implementing camp curriculum, recreational activities, and field trips.
• Hiring and training camp staff members as needed throughout camp. Working closely with counselors and providing them with guidance, when needed.
• Create and maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all campers
• Ensuring that the camp follows all safety regulations regarding equipment, facilities, activities, etc.
• Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the camp, including scheduling, and supervising staff members.
• Monitoring expenses as needed throughout camp.
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on camp activities and address any concerns
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Current teacher or candidate currently pursuing education major, with experience in the classroom.
• Prior Experience working with students in an educational setting. Previous experience supervising a camp preferred- not a required.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire staff.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to manage a diverse staff and camper population
• Enthusiasm for working with children and youth
• Flexibility and adaptability to handle unexpected situations
• Ability to problem-solve and make decisions in a fast-paced environment
• First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Pass background check

Salary Range: $5,000.00 – $6,000.00
