Mission, Vision & Values

Bankier Library Mission

We, the Bankier Library faculty and staff, are committed to student success. We continue, supplement and enhance the classroom experience by providing information literacy components as part of the learning program developed in consultation with classroom faculty. We select and provide assistance in the use of the resources for scholarly inquiry appropriate to the curriculum and mission of the College and its partner institutions.

In a comprehensive program of research and study services, we seek to provide:

• Quality instruction in the research process
• Optimal access to published, recorded or networked information
• A collection of library materials in varied formats
• Facilities and equipment maintained for effective scholarly use

While the curriculum is the key to our selection criteria, we also consider:

• Varied learning styles and abilities
• Diverse and multicultural interests
• Personal enrichment and lifelong learning

The Bankier Library provides discretionary access to information and resource-sharing for Monmouth County residents and other libraries.

Bankier Library Actions

Information Literacy

• Work with faculty as they integrate information literacy and the Library’s resources into their curriculum plans and syllabi
• Design, evaluate and revise information literacy workshops to meet the demand resulting from the adoption of the core competencies

Information Resources

• Increase the budgets for library materials and networked resources by providing data on usage and need to the Educational Services decision-making process

Faculty and Staff

• Provide Library staff with equipment and training equal to the current technological requirements
• Expand opportunities for professional development to facilitate the learner-centered environment
• Make the case for a direct connection between increased enrollment at the College, the inclusion of information literacy in the core competencies, and the need for additional librarians
• Design and deliver appropriate staffing for the University Partnerships at Camp Evans
• Improve intra- and interdepartmental communication and connectivity

Technology

• Evaluate alternative means and devices (e.g. PDAs) to meet the increasing demand for network access in the Information Commons
• Evaluate and revise our website to be more resourceful, more easily navigated and integrated with the College’s website
• Evaluate and implement new technologies for storage and retrieval of information (e.g., DVD)
