In a night filled with pride, gratitude, and celebration, 76 Brookdale Community College’s Fall 2024 class nursing graduates were honored at their pinning ceremony. The event, steeped in tradition, marked the culmination of years of rigorous education and clinical training, symbolizing the transition from student to professional nurse.
Christopher Pflaum, Vice President of the Student Nurses’ Association, served as the evening’s Master of Ceremonies. “Our journey hasn’t been easy, but nursing isn’t supposed to be easy,” he told his classmates. “It’s about advocating for those who cannot advocate for themselves and making a difference in someone’s life every single day.”
Peter Yim, who delivered the welcome address, brought humor and heart to his speech, reflecting on the challenges of early mornings, sleepless nights, and the constant anxiety over exam results. “I’ve never been religious,” Yim quipped, “but I definitely prayed more these past two years than in my entire life.” He thanked his family, friends, and professors for their unwavering support, highlighting his wife as his “rock” throughout the journey.

Brookdale President David M. Stout, Ph.D., praised the graduates for their dedication and perseverance. “I can’t think of a more important or rigorous program than nursing,” he said. “You dedicate so much time, energy, and passion to healing others. Remember, Brookdale thrives on your success. Stay connected with us—we’re cheering you on every step of the way.”
Dean of Health Science Institute, Jayne Edman, Ed.D., RN, reflected on the significance of the pinning tradition, tracing its roots back to Florence Nightingale and the Maltese Cross. She emphasized the profound meaning behind the nursing pin, describing it as “a testament to your dedication, your perseverance, and your readiness to tackle the challenges of this noble profession.”
The ceremony also featured an inspiring address from the graduates’ selected guest speaker, Instructor Georgia Cassidy, MSN, RN, who encouraged them to embrace their roles as advocates and caregivers. “You will be the light on your patients’ most challenging days,” Cassidy said. “Believe in yourself and in your abilities—you are ready to make a difference.”
In a heartfelt farewell speech, graduate Briana N. Jeffers captured the resilience and camaraderie of the class. “This journey demanded every ounce of strength we had,” she said. “But here we stand because we refused to give up. As nurses, we will bring light in times of darkness, lead in crises, and make an impact in ways both small and significant.”

The evening concluded with the presentation of pins, including a special recognition of the newest Alpha Delta Nu Nursing Honor Society member, Meslier Andrade. Applause and cheers echoed as graduates embraced their classmates, family, and friends.
As the Fall 2024 nursing class steps into the professional world, they carry with them the values of advocacy, empathy, and excellence instilled during their time at Brookdale. The ceremony was not just a celebration of achievement but a call to service, reminding these new nurses of the privilege and responsibility of their chosen profession.
Congratulations to the Fall 2024 Brookdale Nursing graduates—you did it!
