Susan Stein’s dramatic performance uses the words and diaries of a Dutch Jewish woman as she holds on to hope in German-occupied Amsterdam 

The Center for Holocaust, Human Rights & Genocide Education (Chhange) will sponsor Etty: A One-Woman Play, created by Susan Stein, to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day on February 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Navesink rooms in the Student Life Center.

The one-woman play draws upon the diaries and letters written from 1941 to 1943 by Esther “Etty” Hillesum, a young Dutch Jewish woman living in German-occupied Amsterdam during World War II. Despite extreme circumstances, Etty’s words, insights, and beliefs allow us to see the power of hope. Etty was murdered in Auschwitz when she was 29 years old. The event is open to the public with a $10 admission charge. It is free to Brookdale students and Chhange members. Parking Lot #7 is closest to the event location.
