Writing the Garde: Waking the Senses; Finding the Words

March 15 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

$49

Lincroft Main Campus
MAP

As spring returns are you thinking about seeds, plant beds, weeding, and composting? This workshop is all about how we engage with the botanical world—listening, talking, and tending to plants—and all the ways we write about our experience, wisdom, and deep yearning for all things green and growing. We will read some of the iconic garden related literature and explore prompts to generate our own poems and prose. There will be a chance to share your writing and be heard. This is exploratory, joyful, yet offers a chance to grow as a writer, as well as share your botanical love and knowledge. All levels of interest and experience welcome! 2 SESSIONS (no class March 22)

Laura McCullough is a Professor of English at Brookdale and holds an MFA from Goddard College. A three-time NJ State Arts Council Fellow in both poetry and prose, she has published 8 books of poetry, including The Wild Night Dress selected by Billy Collins for the Miller Williams Poetry Series for University of Arkansas Press. Her poems and prose have appeared widely in magazines and journals such as The American Poetry Review, Prairie Schooner, Guld Coast, and many more, and she has been a Dodge Poetry Festival performer. She is also an avid gardener and Bonsai practitioner, and her love of the natural world informs her work.
