Rebekah Fischoff, an alumna of Brookdale Community College and former Graduate Trustee, continues to make a lasting impact with her accomplishments.

Brookdale Alumna Rebekah Fischoff Honored in Congressional RecordMost recently, in recognition of her advocacy work and leadership as a student voice while a member of Brookdale’s Board of Trustees both on campus and on Capitol Hill, she had the high honor of being included in the official Congressional Record by U.S. Congressman Chris Smith.

A graduate of the Honors Program at Brookdale, Fischoff credits the experience with opening doors academically, professionally, and personally. “The Honors Program truly changed my college life, and really my entire life,” she said. “It gave me the confidence to run for Graduate Trustee, to speak up in board meetings, and to advocate for students on local, state, and national levels.”

After transferring to Rutgers-Camden, Fischoff graduated “summa cum laude” from their School of Business. She was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, a distinction offered to only the top 10% of business students. In addition, she was chosen as a member of Rutgers’ elite Advocacy Corps, where she again lobbied for federal financial aid and met with Congressional representatives on Capitol Hill.

While at Brookdale, Fischoff championed a wide range of initiatives including modernizing the Honors program’s outreach and application process and focusing on and targeting the needs of prospective students from local high schools. She credits Professor Jonathan Moschberger, Honors Program Coordinator, with leading the charge: “Thanks to Professor Moschberger’s monumental efforts, the program has made great strides—revamping marketing materials, digitizing the application, and strengthening outreach. His compassion, commitment, and student-first mindset are truly the heart of the program’s success.”

Fischoff recently recorded a Brookdale Beat podcast interview with Tom Brennan, reflecting on her experience and encouraging students to consider the Honors Program. “You don’t need the perfect GPA or know exactly where you’re headed,” she said. “You just need to be someone who wants to grow, who’s curious, and who’s willing to engage with your education in a meaningful way. The Honors Program sees your potential—sometimes even before you do.”Rebekah Fischoff recently recorded a Brookdale Beat podcast interview with Tom Brennan, reflecting on her experience and encouraging students to consider the Honors Program.

She credits the program for helping her secure an internship with State Senator Vin Gopal and later, a full-time position as a Client Service Manager at Ameriprise Financial. “My employers were impressed I was in the Honors Program. It showed that I was committed and prepared, and that helped me stand out.”

Currently, a member of Brookdale President’s Community Advisory Council, Fischoff continues to serve the college that helped shape her path. “Serving as Graduate Trustee was one of the most enriching experiences of my life,” she said. “The trustees welcomed me as an equal. I’ll never forget when former Chair Paul Crupi said to me, ‘Rebekah, I don’t see you as a graduate trustee; I see you as a trustee.’ That kind of support meant everything.” As Graduate Trustee, she expanded the role of being the voice of the students, by creating the Graduate Trustee Advisory Council with the assistance of Brookdale president, Dr. David Stout, adding that “We’re fortunate to have President David Stout leading Brookdale. His integrity, vision, and student-first approach have had a lasting impact on me and so many others.”

Fischoff encourages any student considering the Honors Program to take that first step. “Even if you’re just a little curious, you owe it to yourself to explore the program. You might be surprised by what you learn, how much you grow, and who you become.”
