Brookdale, Asbury Park to Launch Free GED Program

ASBURY PARK, NJ (Nov. 28, 2016) – Brookdale Community College and the Asbury Park School District will partner this winter to launch a free general education development (GED) certification and career training program at the Dorothy McNish Parent Center, 300 Prospect Ave., Asbury Park.

Applications are now being accepted for the Youth GED and Career Pathways Program, which will offer local teens and young adults comprehensive training for the GED exam and assistance in starting a new career. The program, opening in January 2017, will help students earn their GED, explore potential career fields, find employment and explore career and college pathways.

“This is just another example of the programming that the Asbury Park School District offers the community in an effort to help them ‘Build a Brighter Future’ while expanding their career options,” said Sancha K. Gray, school district director of curriculum and instruction.

The program is free and open to local residents between the ages of 16 and 24. For admissions information call 732-224-2828 or email jtieso@brookdalecc.edu. Classes will be held in the newly remodeled Dorothy McNish Parent Center, which is owned by the Asbury Park School District.

“We are extremely excited to partner with the Asbury Park School District and offer this valuable, comprehensive program to city residents,” said Brookdale Adult Basic Education director Linda Roma. “Together we will work to provide quality education, new job training and rewarding career opportunities to students in a collaborative, engaging setting.”

The Youth GED and Career Pathways Program is sponsored by the Monmouth County Division of Workforce Development. The Asbury Park program is the third GED and career pathways program to open in Monmouth County. Brookdale currently co-hosts two other programs at the college’s Higher Education Centers in Long Branch and Neptune.
