Brookdale Community College’s Continuing and Professional Studies (CPS) Medical Interpreters Program continues to pave the way for students to secure impactful careers in the healthcare industry. In a testament to the program’s success, three former students are now thriving as full-time Spanish Medical Interpreters at Jersey Shore University Medical Center (JSUMC), part of the Hackensack Meridian Health Network.

The trio of accomplished interpreters includes Reenah Lee of Morganville/Marlboro, Maria D’Andrea of Spring Lake, and Isabella Garcia of Ocean Township. Together, they form the Language Services Department at JSUMC, ensuring critical communication between medical staff and Spanish-speaking patients.

Reenah Lee was the first of the three to be hired. Reflecting on her journey, Reenah shared her gratitude for the program:

“After completing the medical/judicial interpreter course at Brookdale, taught by excellent instructors, I was hired as a full-time Spanish Staff Interpreter at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. I am truly blessed to have this opportunity, which wouldn’t have been possible without my training and guidance at Brookdale.”

Maria D’Andrea joined next, followed by Isabella Garcia, who recently completed the team. Each of these interpreters credits the program’s comprehensive curriculum and dedicated instructors, such as Professor Rejane Franco, for preparing them to meet the rigorous demands of the healthcare field.

Their success stories have inspired current CPS students, excited about the career opportunities available after completing the program. Chris Carroll, Program Manager for Career and Technical Training, emphasized the value of this program:

“This is exactly what we strive for at Brookdale—empowering students with skills that translate directly into meaningful careers. Seeing our graduates excel at JSUMC is a proud moment for all of us.”

Professor Rejane Franco, who played a pivotal role in their professional development, expressed her pride:

“Reenah, Maria, and Isabella were outstanding students. Seeing them succeed and make a difference in their field is incredibly rewarding. They are setting a high standard for future graduates of our program.”

The CPS Medical Interpreters Program addresses a critical need in healthcare, where effective communication can impact patient outcomes. The program provides students with essential medical and judicial interpretation skills, preparing them for roles that bridge language barriers and foster inclusivity in care.

The accomplishments of Reenah, Maria, and Isabella are a testament to the program’s impact and a reminder of the vital role interpreters play in healthcare. Brookdale Community College continues to support and celebrate its graduates, who exemplify its commitment to professional excellence and community service.
