Culinary Top of Class 2025In a celebration of skill, dedication, and passion for the culinary craft, the Brookdale Culinary Arts Program proudly recognized its Top of the Class with the highest honors of the year: the coveted Cordon Awards—Blue, Red, and White—marking first, second, and third in class rankings.

These honors reflect more than just academic success. Recipients are selected based on GPA, hours of community service, and overall performance in the kitchen, including professionalism, consistency, and peer leadership.

Blue Cordon – Angelina Lardiere
The Blue Cordon, the program’s top distinction, was awarded to Chef Angelina Lardiere, a student who consistently demonstrated purpose, passion, and perseverance, whether navigating the demands of the kitchen or life’s unexpected turns. She was recognized as active, engaged, and industry-ready, displaying a level of dedication that went beyond the classroom. Even after a car accident on her way to class, she arrived undeterred, a testament to her commitment. Reflecting the wisdom of Chef Thomas Keller, her approach to cooking embodies the spirit of sharing the table with grace and skill.

Red Cordon – Kiara Wood
The Red Cordon, awarded for second in class, went to Chef Kiara Wood, who brought drive, curiosity, and a steady hand to every class, lab, and service event. Known for her preparation, professionalism, and eagerness to grow, she stood out as a consistent performer and a role model for her peers—a rising star whose calm leadership shone in every aspect of the program.

White Cordon – Jeremy LaTerra
The White Cordon, awarded for third in class, was presented to Chef Jeremy LaTerra, a student celebrated for his energy, humor, and heart. With over 150 hours of community service, he became a fixture at open houses, holiday dinners, and student showcases—often the first to arrive and the last to leave. His willingness to volunteer, lead by example, and uplift others made him a valued member of the program. Always prepared with his mise en place and eager for feedback, he brought ambition to the table, with plans to one day start his own private chef business.

The Cordon Awards are more than symbolic—they represent the culmination of years of hard work, passion, and excellence. The Culinary Arts program at Brookdale prepares students not only to cook, but to lead, to serve, and to innovate in an ever-evolving hospitality industry.

Congratulations to Angelina, Kiara, and Jeremy—this year’s Top of the Class. Their journeys are just beginning, and the industry is fortunate to welcome them.
