Outstanding sophomore dual-sport student-athlete, Ryann Bannerman, was honored as Brookdale Community College’s National Girls and Women in Sports Day – Woman Student-Athlete of the Year.
Director of Athletics & Recreation Katie Amundson surprised Bannerman with her award during the half-time of the women’s basketball game vs Ocean County College for her accomplishments throughout the year as a soccer goalie and basketball guard.
Amundson presented Bannerman’s award with the following touching words, “The Jersey Blue selected this year is hard-working, highly organized, and takes the necessary steps to ensure what she is doing is correct. This goes for both the classroom and playing surfaces. The honoree is very involved in our Brookdale community. She is a two-sport student-athlete and President of our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She has captained multiple community service initiatives and, over the past two years, has earned – All-Region honors, All-Conference honors, and NJCAA All-American honors, and I have been extremely impressed with her enthusiasm, dedication, and reliability since she walked through our doors.”
The Annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) began in 1987 to recognize women in sports, protect Title IX, advance gender equity, and provide a positive influence for girls and women in sports.
