Career Peer Mentors serve in a leadership role in the Career, Leadership & Transfer Pathways department and connect with currently enrolled students interested in learning more about their career development.
Career Peer Mentor criteria:
- Completion of at least 1 full semester of coursework at Brookdale Community College
- GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Must be responsible, reliable, and punctual
- Must have an interest in helping first year students succeed
- Must complete an online application (Application can be found using Handshake)
- Interview with a Career, Leadership & Transfer Pathways staff member
- Current or past involvement in a program offered by Career, Leadership & Transfer Pathways while at Brookdale
- Complete a required training
- Commit to an academic year of serving as a Career Peer Mentor
*10 hours minimum per week dedicated to the duties of a Career Peer in both the Fall and Spring semesters (some weeks may be less).
Career Peer Mentor responsibilities may include:
- Provide information and serve as a resource on all things career related, including goal-setting and future planning
- Answer general questions from students about experiential learning opportunities such as internships, resume writing, career exploration resources, volunteer opportunities, on-campus employment opportunities, etc.)
- Interaction with other students through class sessions as well as smaller group and one-on-one meetings
- Assist with helping students set career action plans and SMART goals
- Stay up to date on events and workshop provided by a variety of departments on campus to share with students and encourage participation
